Haley is an amazing little 8 year old girl. She has so much soul and depth and you rarely find that in kids, let alone an 8 year old!!! Haley’s mom Roya is one of my best and closest friends and is a very talented graphic designer. And Haley is definitely a budding artist herself.
Haley knows how to give that “bored model stare” (and as her mom says “she gets that a lot!” Hehe) and I have wanted to do a fun shoot with her for a long time. We finally made it happen, a few days before Hurricane Irene hit us. The mosquitoes were out in full effect but that didn’t deter us at all. (At least Roya & Haley were able to use bug spray. Being pregnant I can’t use it and its scientifically proven that mosquitoes love pregnant women. How lucky for me, right?)
We started the shoot off in a little walkway right near my house. Locally its called the Cow Path. I remember walking through it as a kid and one day I suddenly realized it could make for a really cool shoot location:
Haley loves headbands (I got her a whole bunch for Christmas last year) so she was excited to wear this Gracylu Originals hat. I seriously think it was made for her:
I love how ethereal this shot is and I couldn’t decide if I liked it better in color or b & w:
We picked some little flowers and played around:
I had printed out a sheet with some poses for inspiration, which I naturally left at home, so we had some fun playing around with different poses and of course, another Gracylu Originals headband:
Love this shot:
We then headed over to another location and a quick outfit change (Roya brought tons of clothes for us to play around with!):
Eyelashes. One of my very favorite details and Haley has some insane eyelashes (thanks to her mama!):
By this point I was being swarmed with mosquitoes so much, I wasn’t even feeling them! I grabbed this dress I had in my closet from an old Halloween costume. I thought it could be really cute on Haley. Fun little secret: the back is clipped with Chip Clips, you know, those clips you put on your bags of chips so they don’t get stale??? This is one of my favorite shots of the whole day (of which there were A LOT. We shot for about 3 hours!):
Haley’s eyes are GORGE, are they not????
Again, couldn’t decide between color and b & w:
I’ve had this Sweet Violet Jane crown sitting around just waiting for the perfect opportunity to be used and Haley totally rocked the “bored princess” look, didn’t she???:
Love the light:
Stay tuned for another post, which will be all about our completely impromptu shoot at the beach. Its AH-MAZ-ING! I promise!
