I’ve been asked over the years but had never done any communion photos until Emma. Although I was raised Catholic myself and even made my communion, I do not associate myself with any religion. I think I also thought I wouldn’t be able to find any creativity in this type of shoot. I like long, styled shoots and I would have no say in the child’s styling. But I decided to step out of my comfort zone and take Emma’s communion pictures. And I couldn’t be happier I did! I absolutely loved doing this type of shoot and really hope to do more next year during communion season! Not only was Emma just a completely sweet girl, but her family was simply lovely. They were open to my posing suggestions and really trusted me, which is something I really value in my clients. And dad even endured getting lint from my blanket all over his suit (I have since thrown away that blanket. It left lint everywhere.)
I started off with getting some shots of Emma and details her beautiful dress. Communion dresses have come a very long way since I made my communion:

Since I don’t shoot weddings but love shooting brides (which I’ve only done once), I think communions might be my way to marry my love of shooting children and the fashion flair similar to bridals:

Time for some family shots:

My favorite family shot:

I love the composition of Emma here, especially with her parents just behind her:

I was seriously having so much fun:

Then onto Emma alone:

You might be saying, “More eyelashes, Jenn???” and my answer would be “YUP!” Emma’s are quite stunning:

While she was nothing short of sweet with me, I get the feeling Emma is force to be reckoned with. I also get the feeling she’s often right about things. And probably a bit of an old soul. Either way, she’s beautiful:

See how sweet she is?:

I almost forgot to get pictures of Emma and her adorable brother Cristian, who was an absolute trooper though the whole thing. I love these two:
